Operations Building Tender Awarded To Local Company
Whitehorse –The contract for the City of Whitehorse Operations Building has been awarded.
Ketza Group will handle the construction of the new Operations Building, which will serve as the new home for fleet maintenance, waste and water services, transit, engineering, and other operations departments. It will replace an old, energy-inefficient building and help meet the growing community needs for municipal services. The tender for the project was awarded for $39 million.
“We are pleased to award this project to such an experienced company as Ketza,” said Wayne Tuck, Project Manager. “We look forward to working with them over the next several months.”
It is anticipated construction will be finished in the spring of 2019. The Government of Canada is contributing up to $23 million through the federal Gas Tax Fund transfer towards this project. The City also acknowledges support from the Government of Yukon through the application of the Business Incentive Program to this contract to encourage the employment of Yukoners on the project.
“Operational Efficiencies is one of our top council strategic priorities,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “We strive to meet resident needs in a cost-effective manner, while ensuring a high quality of service and standards.”
