Outdoor Skating Rink

Check out our rinks by location

In partnership with neighbourhood residents, Parks and Trails installs and maintains approximately 30 outdoor skating rinks throughout the City. Every fall, neighbourhood representatives submit applications to have the rink in their area activated for the upcoming winter. These representatives are always looking for volunteers to help clear the snow to make the rinks ready for flooding by our department. If you would like to contribute to active living in your neighbourhood, please contact Parks and Community Development at 668-8325 and we can direct you to your neighbourhood representative.

Would you like to have an Outdoor Skating Rink in your Neighbourhood? Identify a suitable location; the site must be owned or leased by the City of Whitehorse. If the skating rink is new, ensure the area is level, accessible to a water truck and safe for children. Obtain a commitment from other people in your neighbourhood who are willing to help prepare and maintain the outdoor rink throughout the season. Identify a rink contact person for the application; this person is responsible for coordinating snow clearing of the rink as per the weekly flooding schedule.

Funding may be available to construct or upgrade your community rink. The City offers financial assistance through Recreation Grants to encourage volunteer community groups and organizations to further improve and develop recreation opportunities for Whitehorse citizens.
