The City of Whitehorse owns and operates its own water utility. The City’s potable water is drawn from underground wells in the City’s Riverdale area and is transported to residents’ homes via 160 kilometres water pipes.
The Water & Waste Department is responsible for the maintenance of the system, including pumping and treatment, frost protection, water meters, the availability of bulk water, maintenance of reservoirs, fixing water leaks, and looking after water mains.
Residents are advised that noisy water pipes or sinking ground could be indications of a service break. Any concerns should be reported to Water & Waste at 668-8350.

Keep frost protection devices ON!
Even though air temperatures are warming, the ground frost is now at 3.5m (11 ft.) deep in some areas of town, at which water services are most vulnerable to freezing. Your frost protection devices could include authorized free flowing bleeders, thermostatically controlled bleeders, circulating pumps, electrical impedance heat trace and aqua flows.
Should you have any questions, contact the City of Whitehorse, Water & Waste Department between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday at 668-8350.
