Through its Environmental Grant Program, the City of Whitehorse aims to assist businesses non-profit societies, and community groups with environmental initiatives. The program falls under the City's Environmental Grant Policy.

Criteria for Grant Program

Using its Sustainability Plan as a benchmark, the City will consider providing 50% of total costs for projects that benefit the community. Projects must also address the principles of the City's Sustainability Plan.

These principles include:

  • that Whitehorse be a well-planned, self-sustaining community;
  • that Whitehorse be a leader in energy conservation and innovation;
  • that Whitehorse maintains and conserves wilderness spaces for future generations;
  • that Whitehorse continue to strive for a better quality of life  that is reflected in its vibrant economy and social life.

Support:

Applications are received Feb 15th and October 15th of every year for grants exceeding $1,000. For grants less than $1,000, you can submit an application throughout the year.

For projects of $500 or less, the City may fund 100% of the costs.

Please contact the Environmental Coordinator at 668-8652 to discuss your project ideas and to obtain additional information.
