The Building Inspections section of the Development Services Department certifies that construction within the City complies with the fire, health, and structural safety standards of the National Building and Plumbing Codes and local relevant bylaws. This department both administers and enforces the regulations by processing and approving building permits, performing plan reviews, performing inspections of construction to ensure compliance, and providing information of various types.
In addition to being the record centre for buildings within the City (excluding gas and electrical), Building Inspections offers the following services to the public:
• Building/plumbing permits
• Information on Costs
• Plan review - residential, commercial, etc.
• Inspections for all permits issued
• Building file information searches
• Copies of woodstove approvals
• Information on building bylaws, building and plumbing codes, and the zoning
• Handouts and brochures
BUILDING ADVISORY - NEW DRAINAGE STANDARDS FOR FOUNDATIONS.
Effective October 25, 2010, all building permits for new buildings with subsurface foundations constructed in Whitehorse will need to adhere to prescriptive standards for drainage.
Drawings and specifications relating to this advisory will be available on the website and at the Building Inspections office (4210 Fourth Avenue) on Monday, October 25.
