Whitehorse Strategic Sustainability Plan
Our Strategic Sustainability Plan is a strategy that was developed by our community for our community in 2007 and creates a vision that will guide us over the next 50 years. It considers our economy, our identity, as well as our environment and it will be up to us to ensure that the Whitehorse we all have chosen to call home thrives as a sustainability community into the future.
Thank you for joining us on what is proving to be an exciting journey.
These are the seven principles that guide the City of Whitehorse’s Strategic Sustainability Plan:
THRIVING ENVIRONMENT: Stewardship of the natural environment and recognition of its intrinsic value and importance for quality of life.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Decisions on development, land use, infrastructure, energy and transportation shall be integrated to minimize our ecological footprint.
LEADERSHIP: Long-horizon community leadership true to our principles of sustainable development and global responsibility.
DIVERSE LOCAL ECONOMY: A vibrant, diverse local economy that encourages self-sufficiency uses resources efficiently and creates intergenerational wealth.
EQUITY: Value equity, fairness, and inclusiveness in our community relationships.
CULTURAL IDENTITY: We celebrate cultural diversity that strengthens the uniqueness of our northern community.
EDUCATION: Empower every generation to entrench sustainability in education with the benefit of shared northern knowledge.
