CITY UPGRADING MAIN STREET CLOCK

Thursday, 14 June, 2012

WHITEHORSE – The City is making improvements to the Main Street clock, said Mayor Bev Buckway.

“After being presented with this clock by the Rotary Club of Whitehorse in 2003, the clock at Main Street and Third Avenue has become a Whitehorse icon,” said Buckway. “The City is currently upgrading the clock with new technology that will allow it to receive satellite signals, which will ensure that its time is correct up to the second.

“The City would again like to extend its sincere thanks to the Rotary Club of Whitehorse for their generous gift that has become so important to so many,” added Buckway.

Upgrades to the Main Street clock are currently underway. In addition to the satellite technology, minor repairs were required as a result of general wear and tear on the clock’s mechanics.

“Upgrades to the clock will also allow time to be automatically reset with the correct time in the event of a power outage,” said Projects and Community Development Coordinator Doug Hnatiuk. “We’d like to thank the public for their patience as these upgrades are completed.”
