Whitehorse will hold municipal elections on October 18, 2012 from 8am to 8pm.

Eligible voters will be asked to select six Councillors and one Mayor.from the candidates listed on the ballot. To be eligible to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years of age, and have lived within the municipal boundaries for at least one year prior to election day.

Citizens interested in running for City Council are invited to review the materials provided on this website and may officially register at City Hall.

An eligible elector is:
- A Canadian Citizen,
- 18 years of age or older on polling day; and
- A resident of the City of Whitehorse for one full year as of October 18, 2012.

Revised List of Electors – Postings

The Revised List of Electors has been prepared pursuant to the Municipal Act and is now posted at the following locations in the City of Whitehorse:

City Hall – 2121 Second Avenue
Municipal Services Building – 4210 Fourth Avenue
Parks and Recreation Office – 4061 Fourth Avenue
Public Safety Building – 305 Range Road
Canada Games Centre – 200 Hamilton Boulevard

Electors should examine the list to ensure that their names and relevant information are correctly shown.

Eligible electors whose names do not appear on the list may be sworn in or affirmed at the polls.

Polling Day: October 18, 2012
Advance Poll: October 11, 2012

Options for Absentee Electors

The City of Whitehorse is offering two options for electors who will be absent during the election period this year:

1. Special Ballots are available at City Hall during office hours (8:30 am to 4:30 pm) until Election Day; or
2. Proxy voting is available for electors who will be out of town.

Notice of Nominations

Notice of Nominations for Mayor and Six Councillor positions will be received on September 27, 2012 in City Hall’s Council Chambers between 10:00 a.m. and noon.

Nomination papers may also be filed with the Returning Officer at City Hall between September 10 and noon and the close of nominations on September 27.

Notice of Board of Revision

The Board of Revision will meet in City Hall’s Heritage Boardroom on September 26 between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to hear applicants wanting to make changes to the preliminary list of electors.

Any person eligible to vote may apply to the Board of Revision to have the list of electors revised on the grounds of: a) name being omitted from the list; b) name is incorrect on the list; c) the name is not included on the list.

Written application to the board of revision may be submitted at City Hall up to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday September 20. Persons who have made written applications to the Board of Revisions are NOT required to appear in person before the board.
