Go-T Trail Building Activity

The City of Whitehorse has received reports that trail building activity is occurring off the Go-T trail in the Magnusson area of Grey Mountain. The City would like to inform members of the public and the individual(s) carrying out this activity that under the Parks and Public Open Space Bylaw:

21. No City trail or roadway within a public open space shall be developed or established, unless approved by the City or landowner.

Furthermore, the removal of trees without permission from the City is prohibited under the City’s Tree Removal Policy. Individuals found in contravention to either Bylaw may face up to a $500 fine.

The City of Whitehorse values the contributions of independent builders in creating the world-class trail network Whitehorse residents and visitors enjoy. The City works to assist and support builders and their sponsoring organizations with design and specialized construction assistance to ensure that trails are built to high standards of quality and sustainability.

The City encourages the individual(s) carrying out this activity to contact Douglas Hnatiuk, Manager of Parks and Community Development at 668-8662 to discuss their proposed trail project and receive advice on how to proceed with the required permissions and authorizations in place.
