"OOPS" Waste Education Campaign Returns

Public Service Announcement

Post Date:07/28/2017

Whitehorse – In efforts to increase waste diversion and prolong the life of our landfill, the City of Whitehorse Water and Waste Department is continuing the ‘OOPS’ educational program this summer.

City staff are observing residential waste and compost carts, looking for items that do not belong. Black and green carts containing incorrect items will be stickered with a friendly ‘OOPS’ label, advising residents that they have disposed of something inappropriately.

During this educational program, residents should rest assured that all waste and compost will be collected as normal and staff will have the utmost concern for citizens’ privacy. This campaign is authorized to proceed under the Waste Management Bylaw.

Our landfill has a life expectancy of 39 years, but with waste diversion, we can increase this number and reach our goal of 50% waste diversion.
