Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse and Stantec Consulting Ltd. will be conducting parking counts and field surveys on three separate days during the month of January.
The surveys, an inventory of on-street and off-street parking within the Downtown area, will take place on January 17, 24 and 31.
The exercise is part of the Downtown Parking Management Plan Update, which the City launched in January 2018. The overall goal of the update is to review the 2011 Downtown Parking Management Plan and refresh it with new and emerging parking priorities based on recent population and commercial growth.
Bylaw Services will be utilizing its License Plate Recognition vehicle, which will drive up and down streets to measure parking occupancy and duration levels for each Downtown block.
As the vehicle uses license plates to capture information, Bylaw personnel may need to clean off license plates from vehicles to ensure accurate measurements.
Stantec staff will be on foot, reviewing and analyzing the occupancy of off-street parking lots as well as gaining a better understanding of overall Downtown mobility by documenting bike, transit, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Both Bylaw and Stantec staff will be wearing high visibility vests or uniforms and will be available to answer any questions from the public about what they are doing.
