Pilot Project Deemed a Success
Whitehorse – A pilot project aimed at reducing congestion and transit delays in Riverdale has been deemed a success, according to Whitehorse Transit Manager Cheri Malo.
Every morning between January 15 and 19, a dedicated lane was open for Whitehorse Transit buses and bikes only along Lewes Boulevard from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.
“The pilot project went very smoothly and we received a good amount of positive feedback from riders and cyclists,” Malo said. “More importantly, buses coming out of Riverdale between 7:40 and 8:40 am were on time. This allowed Riverdale and Porter Creek passengers to be picked up on time.”
Transit’s goal of making the bus schedule predictable and reliable was achieved, Malo added. Traffic congestion in Riverdale during morning peak commute hours can result in transit delays of up to 17 minutes.
The information gathered during the pilot project, as well as from surveys, will be used to inform the City’s Transit Master Plan, which is currently under review.
