Strike Update

Post Date:04/13/2018 9:00 AM

WHITEHORSE – The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) served the City of Whitehorse with strike notice this morning.

The notice advises of strike action by city employees who are members of Y023 (approximately 300 members) and escalated action by Y022 (Transit) employees as of 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16th.

The City and PSAC are scheduled to negotiate over the weekend. The City remains committed to the collective bargaining process, and to reaching a reasonable agreement that balances the interests of City employees and City residents.

The City has developed a strike plan in the event of a strike by employees. A Maintenance of Activities agreement between the City and PSAC is also in place, and will ensure essential services are addressed.

City firefighters are members of a different union and are not part of this labour disruption.

The City will be using its social media pages, as well as its website, to provide updates to the public as information becomes available.
