Celebrating the Whitehorse-Lancieux Friendship

Joint news release

Post Date:09/11/2018

Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse and the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) invite you to celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the Whitehorse-Lancieux Sister City connection this Thursday, September 13 at 12:00 p.m. at City Hall. The celebration will begin with speeches and light refreshments in Council Chambers, followed by the raising of the Lancieux flag in front of City Hall at 12:30pm.

Both cities share a history with the poet Robert W. Service as he adopted these two locations as his homes for his poetic inspirations. The great affection he had for these towns still brings the sister cities of Whitehorse and Lancieux together today.

“Whitehorse continues to enjoy a strong relationship with Lancieux and we are happy to be celebrating 18 years of friendship. We truly value our Francophone community and thank the AFY, Yann Herry in Whitehorse and Marie Conan in Lancieux for their continued dedication and collaboration so that we can enjoy this wonderful Sister City relationship,” said Whitehorse Mayor Dan Curtis.

“We are truly honoured to celebrate the friendship between Whitehorse, a city in Canada’s far north, and Lancieux, a town on the French coast, two communities which inspired the poet Robert W. Service and which he chose to call home. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the City of Whitehorse for this annual collaboration,” said Jeanne Beaudoin, President of AFY.
