Firefighters Remind Residents About Fire Safety This Halloween

Public Service Announcement

Post Date:10/24/2018

Whitehorse – Residents are reminded to practice fire safety this fall season.

By planning ahead, you can help make this Halloween a fire-safe one by taking precautions such as:

  • Using battery-operated candles or glow-sticks in jack-o-lanterns;
  • Choosing costumes made out of material that won’t easily ignite if it comes into contact with heat or flames and avoiding billowing or long trailing fabric;
  • Keeping exits clear of decorations, so nothing blocks escape routes.

Also be reminded that the use of fireworks is strictly prohibited within city limits at any time of year, pursuant to the Firearms Bylaw.

For more information about fire safety, please contact the Whitehorse Fire Department at 668-2462 or visit www.whitehorse.ca/fire.
