WHITEHORSE – In the spirit of sharing with citizens who are less fortunate, the City is supporting the 12th annual Food for Fines program.
The program offers the option of donating cash or food of equal or higher value to a parking ticket.
Expired parking meter and two-hour zone ticket fines received between December 1 and 8 are eligible. City Hall will accept donations until December 12. All donations will go directly to the Whitehorse Food Bank and Kaushee’s Place.
Past fundraising efforts have been very successful. In 2017, the City raised $2,100 in food donations and $5,320 in cash donations. The total amount raised was $7,420.
Since 2006, the City has raised over $56,000 in cash and food donations for this important cause.
Donated food items need to be non-perishable including canned foods such as beans, fruit, vegetables and fish, and dried goods such as pasta, cereal and soup. For more information, visit: www.whitehorse.ca/parking.
