Whitehorse 2040 - Official Community Plan Launch

Post Date:11/29/2018

WHITEHORSE – The City of Whitehorse is launching the next review of its Official Community Plan (OCP) called Whitehorse 2040. The OCP is the City’s highest level planning document that sets the overall direction for the community over the next 20 years to approximately 2040. Once adopted by Council, an OCP is used by the City to make decisions on important topics such as land use planning, housing and growth, conservation and park space, transportation, and recreation.

“The OCP is very much a community-led plan that reflects the ideas, expertise, and aspirations of Whitehorse residents,” Mayor Dan Curtis said. “We invite you to get involved in the OCP Review so we can set the direction for how you live, work, and play in your city.”

Whitehorse 2040 will be broken into four phases. The first phase, titled Awareness Building, will run from November 29, 2018 until early 2019. In addition to raising awareness of the OCP through educational materials, our two main opportunities for the general public to be involved during this phase are:

  • An online survey which can be filled out between now and January 25, 2019 at whitehorse.ca/ocp. The survey will include a variety of map-based and standard questions that focus on topics such as special places, opportunities and challenges, and community visioning.
  • The January 23, 2019 drop-in event in the Mount McIntyre Grey Mountain Room will give you the chance to talk face to face with our planners about the future of your city. More details to come on this event.

Your input during this stage will be used to inform later stages of the review, which includes engagement sessions focused on specific topic areas.

Visit whitehorse.ca/ocp for more information and to sign up to the e-newsletter for project updates. Please see the attached Whitehorse 2040 Backgrounder for more information.
