Whitehorse 2040 OCP Review
Phase one engagement ends soon
Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse is reminding residents of the opportunity to take part in Whitehorse 2040, the ongoing review of the City’s top-level planning document, the Official Community Plan.
Whitehorse 2040 launched in late 2018, and is expected to be completed by 2020. It sets a vision for the next 20 years of the city’s growth. In the first phase of the review, residents have two ways to participate:
- Fill out the online survey (available at www.whitehorse.ca/ocp), available until January 25, or;
- Come to the drop-in public meeting at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre on January 23 anytime between 4 and 8 pm.
“The OCP is the strongest tool we have to reflect how residents want to see their City grow and change,” Senior Planner Mike Ellis said. ”We need your expertise to tell us about the challenges and opportunities facing all of us as we grow.”
The Whitehorse 2040 process will take place over four phases. The ideas gathered in this first phase will help the City determine the main topics that will be covered in later engagement. The overall intent is to create as many opportunities as possible for the public to directly be involved in creating the plan.
“Our current Official Community Plan was adopted in 2010. Since then, we’ve grown by more than 5,000 new residents,” Mayor Dan Curtis said. “The OCP helps us figure out the best way to keep growing and still preserve what makes Whitehorse such a popular place to live.”
