Whitehorse 2040 OCP Review - Phase Two Launch
WHITEHORSE – The City of Whitehorse is launching the second phase of Whitehorse 2040, the ongoing review of the City’s top-level planning document, the Official Community Plan (OCP). Phase two will build on the background information and input collected in phase one, which was completed this winter.
Engagement events for phase two begin in May and will run through early June. Events will include numerous meetings at both the city-wide and neighbourhood level. Phase two will wrap up with the production of a ‘New Concepts’ report and ‘What We Heard’ document.
The list of events includes:
Neighbourhood Meetings (first half of May)
- Copper Ridge/Arkell/Ingram/Logan/Lobird
- Country Residential (2 meetings, north and south ends of the City)
- Porter Creek/Crestview
- Takhini/Range Point/Whistle Bend/Yukon College/Kopper King
- Also, there will be two neighbourhood walks (Riverdale & Porter Creek)
City-wide Engagement (late May – early June)
- OCP Workbooks (online & paper format)
- Citizen Circles (in-person workshops)
- Numerous ‘pop-up’ events
The Whitehorse 2040 process will take place over four phases. The ideas and guidance gathered in this second phase will help the City develop policy direction and formulate a draft plan for public review. The overall intent is to create as many opportunities as possible for the public to directly be involved in creating the plan.
“The OCP is the City’s highest-level planning document. It guides decisions with a 20 year outlook,” Mayor Dan Curtis said. “It is crucial that we engage our citizens in developing and shaping the vision for Whitehorse.”
Whitehorse 2040 launched in late 2018, and is expected to be complete by 2020. Visit whitehorse.ca/ocp for more information and to sign up to the e-newsletter for project updates.
