City Seeks Families To Host Japanese Students

Public Service Announcement

Post Date:06/03/2019

Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse will welcome Japanese students for two weeks in late July as part of the Sister City Exchange Program with Ushiku, Japan.

We are still looking for families to host these students. This program represents a wonderful opportunity for families with teenage children to enjoy a multi-cultural experience - as well as free activities - from July 26 to August 5.

The exchange students, who range from 13 to 18 years of age, participate in a number of activities during the week along with their host family’s teens which include camping, canoeing and hiking, sponsored and organized by the City of Whitehorse. Families who can accommodate a student in their household are urged to apply online now.

The cost of weekday activities and transportation is funded by the City, while host families provide accommodation and meals.

The Sister City Exchange Program began in the 1980s, providing opportunities for school-aged children from Whitehorse and Ushiku to visit their Sister City. Next year, a group of Whitehorse students will visit Ushiku as the program alternates year after year.
