More Temporary Measures Announced
Whitehorse – A Special Council Meeting was held yesterday afternoon to confirm the adoption of more temporary measures related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Members of Council voted in favour of the following motions:
- To extend the temporary suspension of parking meter fees until the public health emergency declared by the Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Yukon on March 16th is rescinded or until future directions issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health otherwise permit;
- To extend the temporary suspension of transit fares until the public health emergency declared by the Chief Medical Officer of Heath for the Yukon on March 16th is rescinded or until future directions issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health otherwise permit;
- To suspend the application and collection of penalties and interest for late payments on water and waste water services, garbage collection and other City services, excluding property taxes, until September 30th, 2020.
The Special Council meeting was held as the earlier Resolutions made by Council regarding parking metres and transit fares were set to expire on April 13th.
We continue to follow the recommendations made by the Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Yukon.
The City will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation in the territory to ensure we respond to emerging issues as they relate to City facilities, programs, services and events.
