Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse is joining communities across Canada to express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to those directly battling COVID-19 on the front lines.
On Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., the Whitehorse Fire Department will activate its air raid siren in support of health care workers across Canada who are away from their families during this pandemic.
“Health care workers here in the territory and across the country have risen to the occasion and continue to work around the clock to keep us safe,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “On behalf of Mayor and Council, we thank you for your tireless work and for looking after us during this difficult time.”
“This recognition initiative is to publicly demonstrate our support for the critical and essential front-line staff working hard to address the COVID-19 public health threat,” said Fire Chief Jason Everitt. “These professionals are performing dangerous work on many different fronts, and at significant risk to themselves, to prevent this pandemic from causing further harm. This tribute is also a signal to everyone that we must also do our part to stop the spread of the virus.”
The siren will be activated from the downtown Fire Hall #1
