Agreement with Alpine Aviation Reached
WHITEHORSE – An agreement has been reached between the City of Whitehorse and Alpine Aviation, allowing the company to continue using its dock site in exchange for providing itinerant (visiting) plane parking, fuel sales, and access to a safety boat.
The City held a mediated session with representatives from Alpine Aviation and the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) Yukon Chapter in Dec. 2019 to resolve a dispute regarding a dock site (Dock Site 11) used by the company at Schwatka Lake. The session was an opportunity to explore, in greater detail, the operational needs of the company and proposals for public service provision.
Services will be reported on and monitored through the City’s annual permitting process. The company will also contribute towards the cost of opening a new dock site in the vicinity of the company’s location to help advance the wait list of pilots currently seeking a place along the west shore of Schwatka Lake.
There are currently 20 City-issued dock sites and 19 operators on the wait list.
“The City recognizes the valuable transportation service that Alpine Aviation provides to the residents of the Yukon, as well as its visitors,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “Council is pleased to see a favorable resolution reached that will benefit all parties involved in the management and usage of the float plane base.”
