Celebrating the Whitehorse-Lancieux Friendship

Joint news release

Post Date:08/24/2020 10:00 AM

Whitehorse – The City of Whitehorse and the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) invite you to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Whitehorse-Lancieux Sister City connection. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual celebration will occur in place of a community gathering.

A video featuring Mayor Dan Curtis, AFY President Jeanne Beaudoin, Lancieux sister city relationship initiator Yann Herry and Whitehorse youth reciting Each Day a Life, a poem by Robert W. Service, highlights iconic Whitehorse scenery and represents the poet’s favourite theme, nature.

Both Whitehorse and Lancieux share a history with Robert W. Service as he adopted these locations as his homes for his poetic inspirations. The great affection he had for these towns still brings our sister cities together today.

“I am so excited to celebrate this milestone anniversary with our sister city, Lancieux,” said Whitehorse Mayor Dan Curtis. “Over the last 20 years, we have grown stronger through our cultural relationship with Lancieux and I wish to thank the Association franco-yukonnaise for working hard to cultivate the important connection between our communities. A special shout-out also goes to Yann Herry and Marie Conan for their longstanding dedication to bringing our youth together on so many occasions.”

“The ties forged between Whitehorse and Lancieux, thanks to the famous poet Robert Service, has strengthened our francophone community. We are proud that we share this connection with Lancieux,” said AFY President Jeanne Beaudoin.
