City Presents Food for Fines Donation
WHITEHORSE – Mayor Dan Curtis presented a check in the amount of $6,360 this morning to the Whitehorse Food Bank and Kaushee’s Place, as part of the annual Food for Fines campaign.
In addition, the City of Whitehorse raised $2,635 in food donations, for a grand total of $8,995. That represents a significant increase over last year’s total of $6,535.
“I would like to thank our Bylaw Services officers for their hard work during this campaign,” said Mayor Curtis. “Thank you to the Food Bank and Kaushee’s Place for providing such an important service to the community and for continuing to help families in need during the holiday season. And lastly, thank you to those who donated so generously during a challenging time for our community, it is greatly appreciated.”
The Food for Fines campaign gives the option of donating cash or food of equal value to a parking ticket. Parking meter ticket fines received between November 28 and December 5 were eligible, and donations were accepted until December 9.
