Whitehorse – The New Year’s Eve fireworks that typically take place at Shipyards Park have been cancelled, due to public safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual fireworks show is a beloved and popular event in Whitehorse, and as such, typically draws big crowds.
“We prioritize the safety of our residents, visitors and staff,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “It wasn’t an easy decision to make but we need to respect physical distancing guidelines. We really hope we can put on a great show for you again in 2021.”
The City of Whitehorse continues to follow the recommendations made by the Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Yukon.
