Citizens Can Now Call In To Council Meetings

Post Date:02/12/2021 11:00 AM

Whitehorse – Members of the public can now call in to City Council meetings to participate as delegates.

Previously, delegates could only participate in Council meetings through written submissions read in to the record by a staff person, as per the temporary meeting measures first adopted due to the COVID-19 pandemic on April 2, 2020.

Now, in addition to that option, delegates wanting to make a presentation to Council or to provide input at a public hearing can also call in to a meeting. This will provide the opportunity for presenters to speak directly to Council and respond to questions raised by Council members.

Delegates must register with the assistant city clerk by noon on the day of the meeting in order to participate. Instructions on how to call in to a meeting will be provided to delegates by the clerk.

Last Monday, Council passed a revision to the temporary meeting measures to provide delegates with additional participation options as Council chambers at City Hall remains closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Temporary meeting measures will remain in effect until the public health emergency declared by the Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Yukon is rescinded.
