Open Burning Extension

Whitehorse – The Whitehorse Fire Department is extending the open burning season beyond March 31 in light of the remaining snowpack and gradual warming temperatures.

Current burning permits can be extended and new permits activated by contacting Deputy Fire Chief Chris Green.

Residents are required to email their burning plan with pictures to A sight inspection may be required.

At no time shall a fire be ignited before receiving approval. If conditions become unfavourable, permits will be revoked.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the extended season to begin FireSmart activities.

Under normal circumstances, open burning is not allowed within City limits between April 1 and September 30, except for cooking fires.
