Whitehorse – The area around last Saturday’s escarpment slide remains unstable and is still considered a high-risk, active site. It will remain closed until further notice, and the public is instructed to continue avoiding the area.
Surveying of the escarpment has indicated there is still movement including new mud streams and a high volume of water seepage, and the area immediately above the slide is a significant hazard to anyone below it.
The Rotary Centennial Bridge will re-open for active transportation users in and out of Riverdale, but the section of the Millennium Trail affected by the slide remains closed.
Commuters should continue to anticipate delays in travel time and increased traffic congestion during these closures. Please allow for more travel time, and consider carpooling, using transit, choosing active transportation, or working from home, where possible.
Daily monitoring and assessment will continue to inform the City’s work plan, and updates will be provided as they become available.
We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this time.
