Born and raised in lower mainland British Columbia, Laura has lived in Whitehorse for the past 26 years. Although a first time City Councillor, her interest in politics and government began at an early age supporting family members and friends being elected to all levels of government.
Laura has a bachelor degree in both Physical Education and Law. She is currently the managing partner of Cabott & Cabott, Barristers specializing in litigation and aboriginal law.
With so many opportunities to serve in Whitehorse, Laura has been actively volunteering in numerous professional, community, and sports organizations including: Law Society of Yukon, Lawyers Financial/Canadian Bar Insurance Association, Equal Voices, Planning Institute of B.C./Yukon, Yukon Mental Health Review Board, Whitehorse Food Bank, Wilderness Tourism Assoc. Yukon, Indian Residential Schools Adjudicator Training, Whitehorse Minor Hockey, Civil Air Search and Rescue, Paddlers Abreast, Arctic and Canada Winter Games.
Yukon is a great fit for Laura and her love of hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, and hunting with family and friends.
Laura’s focus over the next three years is to ensure that living in Whitehorse is affordable for our residents, and that we spend our money on the projects and services that matters to Whitehorse citizens the most. She strongly believes that it takes all of our voices to build a city that works for everyone.
