Approximately 90% of the waste Whitehorse landfills is coming from two sectors:
The Institutional, Commercial, & Industrial Sector (ICI) and The Construction & Demolition Sector (C&D). Businesses have a important role in managing our community's waste.
Businesses have a responsibility to separate their waste before disposal. Separation allows us to compost and recycle materials, while safely and responsibly disposing the rest. Icons in blue (see below) are the categories that must be separated from general garbage before disposal at the landfill.

In July 2016 the City of Whitehorse surveyed the business community on proposed changes to the Waste Management Bylaw. A total of 159 responses were received.
