Understanding the City's Numbers
In order for the City to complete the largest capital infrastructure project to date, the new Operations building, a strategic financing plan was put into place. This plan included increasing the City’s reserve funds with the peak being in 2017. The plan from 2018 on is to reduce these reserve funds to pay for the building and reduce the amount of borrowing needed on this project.
Contributed capital are assets that are donated to the City. The largest type of assets that the City has received in the last 5 years are linear assets. Linear assets include roads, bridges, traffic signals, sanitary mains, storm mains, water mains and sewer. The bulk of the assets currently donated to the City by the Government of Yukon are in relation to the development of the Whistle Bend Subdivision and will continue until all phases have been developed.
