The Whitehorse Fire Department is proud to provide fire suppression services (structural, wildland, etc), technical rescue services (ice, high and low angle rope, confined space, elevator, machinery entanglement), dangerous goods support operations, air quality response (i.e. carbon monoxide and LPG alarms and odours), vehicle extrication and EMS assist support.
Fire prevention is a key initiative which includes Fire and Life Safety building inspections, building plan reviews to ensure code compliance, and Fire Prevention public education. Fire cause determination investigations are conducted and documented in accordance with the Yukon Fire Prevention Act. A comprehensive inspection program of commercial assembly, commercial kitchen, schools and regulated institutions, hotels and multi-unit residential occupancies is designed to educate owner/operators and reduce the likelihood and severity of fires.
Our 24-hour dispatch service answers fire emergency calls, dispatches and monitors crew members as well as bylaw complaints and after-hour calls to the City’s trouble line.
Our team works and supports regional agencies and communities through agreements with the Yukon Fire Marshal's office, Erik Neilson International Airport, Yukon Wildfire Management along with others.
