DESCRIPTION:Join us for Active Commute Week\, a city-wide movement to swap your solo drive for an active ride! \nSign up to be part of your neighbourhood or school team and log your commute each day to compete against other groups. The group with the most distancetravelled will win lunch with their team (and bragging rights). Help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost your health while having fun! \nRegister to log your distance\, win prizes\, and secure your spot for activities! activecommutewhitehorse.ca \nAll events are free! \nMay 29: Kids’ Bike Rodeo\n3:30 to 5 pm\nShipyards Park \nJune 3 and 6: Support Stations\nGet a high-five and grab a snack!\nRotary Park\, Two Mile Hill Trail\, Airport Trail\nLook for aid stations with refreshments and high-fives set up specifically to recognize your efforts! \nJune 4 through 9: Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal Poll\nThroughout Whitehorse\nThe count is a chance to evaluate the state of cycling in our communities. Together we get a snapshot of what cycling looks like in communities across Canada\, at the same time\, year over year. \nJune 5: Walking 101 Workshop\n6 to 7:30 pm\nCanada Games Centre\nEventbrite link \nLearn all about the benefits of walking as a mode of transportation\, how to stay safe while walking\, and tips for incorporating walking into your daily routine. This in-person event is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow walkers and start your journey towards a more active commute. Bring comfortable walking shoes and poles if you use them. While we meet at the CGC\, it is essentially an outdoor event\, walking along the Hamilton Blvd trail (indoors if it is raining). \nJune 6: Motherload\n6 to 8 pm\nAssociation Franco-Yukonnaise\, 302 Strickland St\nAn award-winning documentary that uses the cargo bike as the vehicle for exploring parenthood in this digital age of climate change. Motherload captures a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of modern life\, its planetary impact\, and how cargo bikes could be an antidote! Watch the trailer. \nJune 7: Biking 101 Workshop\n6 to 8:30 pm\nTakhini Broomball Arena\, 46 Normandy Rd\nEventbrite link \nWhether you are new to biking or looking to improve your skills\, this workshop is perfect!
