Effective November 1, the Yukon’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for residential packaging and paper products recycling begins.
This program will be operated by Circular Materials, the producer responsibility organization managing residential recycling services, including curbside recycling in Whitehorse.
There will be no immediate changes to curbside collection schedules for Whitehorse residents currently receiving the service. The temporary increase in utility rates for curbside recycling collection will be removed, and rates will be reduced by $12.50 per month effective November 1.
The last day of operation for the City’s temporary recycling depot at the Waste Management Facility will be Friday, October 31, after which it will be closed permanently.
On Saturday, November 1, a new free residential recycling drop-off depot will be open in Whitehorse. Circular Materials will release more details on the location and hours of operation for the new residential depot before November 1.
For questions on the new residential recycling programs (depot or curbside), please contact Circular Materials: [email protected] or 1-877-667-2626.
A new commercial recycling depot will also open on November 1 at Raven ReCentre for free drop-off of commercial packaging materials. This commercial depot will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
