SUMMARY:Community Garage Sale
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 9\n11 am – 3:30 pm\nJoin the City of Whitehorse and Zero Waste Yukon by keeping perfectly good items out of the landfill. Sign up for a booth\, come as a buyer \n$35 per booth. Update: All booths for 2026 are spoken for! \nEvent Partners\n \nZero Waste Yukon\nZero Waste Yukon is hosting a clothing swap! Bring clothing you no longer need or wear and swap it out for something new-to-you! The rules are: 1. All clothing donations MUST be freshly washed. 2. You do not need to donate to take clothing. 3. All clothing is free! Leftover clothing will go to Raven ReCentre. Clothing will then either be sorted into our Reuseful Thrift Store\, or will be bailed and sent south to Trans-Continental Textile Recycling for recycling. \nBlock printing on clothing with Leslie Leong\nRegister on the day at the Zero Waste booth. First-come\, first-served. Dig out your old clothes\, t-shirts\, jackets\, pants\, skirts\, or even the kitchen towel and learn how to make them new again! Using leftover house paint\, local artist Leslie Leong will teach people how to print on cloth\, using lino blocks to print their old clothes. Add some pizzazz and learn to love your clothes once again! Note: Smoother cloth items work best. \nYukonstruct Repair Cafe\nHave a broken toaster that needs some TLC? Or maybe your favourite pair of jeans need a patch? Bring it over to Yukonstruct’s Repair booth! They’ll be hosting a mini Repair Cafe where volunteers will provide advice and help people repair their own broken items\, or those that could use some maintenance and TLC. The volunteers can demonstrate and help troubleshoot and repair small electrical appliances (like toasters\, blenders\, rice cookers\, head phones\, radios\, etc). And will have a small sewing machine on hand to show how minor fabric repairs or improvements can be made on clothes\, boots\, etc. In the event you can’t make it to the Indoor Garage Sale\, you can come to the full scale “Repair Cafe” which is held on the last Thursday of each month (6-9 pm) in the MakeSpace at Northlight Innovation centre (2180 – 2nd Ave). \nRaven’s Zero Waste Team\nRaven is promoting reuse and repair! Come learn about our thrift store\, sign up for our Tool Library\, and chat with our staff! We have big plans for the summer and we’re excited to tell you all about it! Zero Waste is the education\, outreach\, and advocacy arm of Raven ReCentre. Since 2014\, Zero Waste has been working to inspire change through public education and engagement\, events\, and support of Zero Waste initiatives in the Yukon Territory. \nComputers for School Yukon\nWe receive various tech donations from the government or individuals and refurbish them so that we can give away or sell at a low cost to students/teachers\, non-profit organizations and First Nation organizations! For the Community Garage Sale we will be offering consultations and light repairs (the software side if. things). We may also accept tech donations at our booth but if it’s a large amount of items we request a scheduled visit to our warehouse to drop those off. \nVendor FAQ\nQ: When is load-in / set-up?\nA: Saturday\, May 9 between 8 am and 10:45 am.  Doors open for the Garage Sale at 11 am. \nQ: Where do I load-in?\nA: Head to the ATCO rink loading bay door on the parking lot side of the CGC. Staff will meet you with available trolleys if needed. You’ll see us\, we’ll make it obvious. \nQ: How big are the booths? What do you get?\nA: You get two 8-foot tables in the shape of an “L”. You’re welcome to use the 8′ x 8′ floor space within your booth to display your items. \nQ: When is take-down?\nA: Saturday from 3:30 to 6 pm. \nQ: I still have questions!\nA: Get in touch with Jeremy at Jeremy.Flamand@whitehorse.ca and he’ll help you out. \nBring a buddy to help with your stuff\, your own tape/hangers\, and a float. ATM is available by Booster Juice.

SUMMARY:Mineral Exploration and Development Engagement Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City has a developed a draft framework for regulating mineral exploration and development activities within city limits. \nThe City’s Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw provide guidance about where mineral exploration and development activities are allowed\, but there is a need for greater clarity about how these activities are permitted. The draft framework is intended to provide clear guidance to claims holders and the public while reflecting community values and goals. \nThe framework was developed based on feedback received from residents in 2025 on how mineral exploration and development could be regulated within city limits. \nTo explain the proposed regulatory approach and answer questions from residents\, the City is hosting two open houses about the draft framework: \nMonday\, February 23\n4:00 to 7:30 p.m.\nFrank Slim Building in Shipyards Park \nThursday\, February 26\n4:00 to 7:30 p.m.\nCanada Games Centre \nThe City has also launched a survey so that the public can provide feedback on the draft framework. \nVisit engagewhitehorse.ca/mining to view the draft framework\, find more information and fill out the survey\, which is open until March 9.

SUMMARY:2025 Ushiku Exchange Program - Host Family Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The Sister City Exchange Program between Whitehorse and Ushiku\, Japan\, launched in the 1980s\, fosters mutual cultural understanding and strengthens leadership skills among youth. \nEvery other year\, Whitehorse host families invite an Ushiku exchange student into their home\, sharing Canadian and Yukon culture. Host families provide meals\, accommodation\, and outings\, while the City of Whitehorse organizes weekday activities. \nThe following year\, a group of Youth Ambassadors from Whitehorse visits Ushiku\, where they immerse themselves in Japanese culture through activities like living with a host family\, visiting a high school\, and engaging in traditional and modern experiences. \nThis exchange cycle reinforces cross-cultural bonds and lasting friendships. \nBe part of our 2025 program as a host family from July 24 to August 3 when Whitehorse will host students from Ushiku. \nAttend one of our information sessions February 13\, April 3 and May 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Canada Games Centre \nLearn more and apply at whitehorse.ca/japan
