SUMMARY:Mineral Exploration and Development Engagement Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City has a developed a draft framework for regulating mineral exploration and development activities within city limits. \nThe City’s Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw provide guidance about where mineral exploration and development activities are allowed\, but there is a need for greater clarity about how these activities are permitted. The draft framework is intended to provide clear guidance to claims holders and the public while reflecting community values and goals. \nThe framework was developed based on feedback received from residents in 2025 on how mineral exploration and development could be regulated within city limits. \nTo explain the proposed regulatory approach and answer questions from residents\, the City is hosting two open houses about the draft framework: \nMonday\, February 23\n4:00 to 7:30 p.m.\nFrank Slim Building in Shipyards Park \nThursday\, February 26\n4:00 to 7:30 p.m.\nCanada Games Centre \nThe City has also launched a survey so that the public can provide feedback on the draft framework. \nVisit engagewhitehorse.ca/mining to view the draft framework\, find more information and fill out the survey\, which is open until March 9.

SUMMARY:Tobogganing Fridays
DESCRIPTION:Please note that Tobogganing Fridays is 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 December 19\, due to extreme cold.\nEnvironment Canada is forecasting a high of -33°C for Friday\, with a windchill near -44°C. This cold snap is a little too chilly for safe sliding\, so we’re calling it a wrap for the season. Bundle up\, stay warm\, and thanks for joining us this winter.\nContact our fun Parks team at parks@whitehorse.ca if you have any questions. \nEvery Friday\, from November 7 to December 19\, children and caregivers are invited to join us for sledding and hot chocolate at Shipyards Park. We’ll be there\, with our partners\, from 4 to 6 pm. We hope to see you too! \nBring your sleds! We’ll have a few sleds for those who don’t have access to one. \nWe’ll also have puzzles and colouring inside the Frank Slim Building\, where a variety of community groups and partners will be joining us to share information\, resources\, and activities with visitors. \nGuardian supervision is required at all times. Kids 5 and under should have a responsible adult with them on the sled. Cancelled if -20 or colder. Brr! \nStaying Safe \n• Go down the hill sitting up or kneeling on the sled. Don’t go down the hill head first or flat on your back. It’s much easier to hurt your head or spine in these positions. \n• When you get to the bottom of the hill\, move quickly out of the way\, and walk up the side of the hill away from others. \nGear and Clothing \n• Check your sled to make sure it’s in good shape before you use it. \n• Dress in warm layers including; mittens instead of gloves; warm\, dry\, waterproof boots that aren’t too tight; a neck warmer instead of scarf; clothes without drawstrings and a hat that keeps ears covered. \n• Wear a helmet (hockey\, ski\, or snowboard type). If possible\, wear a ski helmet because they’re made for cold weather and for similar falls and speeds. \nCity FireSmart staff will also be joining the fun at this week’s Tobogganing Fridays. \nContact our Parks and Community Development team at parks@whitehorse.ca if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Tobogganing Fridays
DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, from November 15 to March 14\, children and caregivers are invited to join us for sledding and hot chocolate at Shipyards Park. We’ll be there from 4 to 6 pm. We hope to see you too! \nBring your sleds! We’ll have a few sleds for those who don’t have access to one. \nContact our Parks and Community Development team at parks@whitehorse.ca if you have any questions.
