Please bring household hazardous waste to the Waste Management Facility on Saturdays between 9 am and 4 pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How has recycling in Whitehorse changed?

On November 1, 2025, the Yukon’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for residential packaging and paper products began. The program is operated by Circular Materials, the producer responsibility organization managing residential recycling services, including curbside recycling and a local recycling depot. There were no immediate changes to the curbside program that had been operated by the City, with the exception of the removal of the temporary utility charge. A new, free residential recycling depot and commercial depot is available at Raven ReCentre, 100 Galena Road in Marwell.

Who do I contact if I need new blue bins, yellow bags or have more questions about curbside recycling collection?

Contact [email protected] about new blue bins, yellow bags or with questions about the curbside recycling collection program.

Can I opt out of curbside recycling?

No. If you are currently eligible for Residential Curbside Collection – i.e., you have a black cart for garbage and a green cart for compost – then you will automatically receive curbside recycling services. There is no fee for this service.

I live in a multi-unit building, can I get curbside recycling?

If your complex is four or fewer units and already on the City curbside garbage collection program you are automatically eligible for curbside recycling. (i.e. if you have a residential black bin). If your multi-unit has more than four units and would like recycling collection services, the condo board or property manager must contact a private service provider to arrange collection. Visit Commercial Waste Services for a list of service providers. Otherwise materials can be brought to Raven’s depot free of charge.

I am not on curbside collection, where do I take my recycling?

You can bring your recycling to a free, residential recycling depot at Raven ReCentre, 100 Galena Road, Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

When can businesses use the recycling depot at Raven ReCentre?

Businesses can bring commercial packaging materials Raven ReCentre’s depot, 100 Galena Road, for free, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m.

What is the cost of recycling?

Under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, producers of products and packaging are required to make sure products and packaging are properly managed when they reach end of life. This means the cost of managing this waste shifts to producers, rather than the consumer paying fees – such as tipping fees or collection fees – for disposal.
