Waste Services

The City of Whitehorse provides a range of programs and services to help residents manage waste safely and responsibly. These services include residential waste collection to eligible properties, organic waste collection for multi-unit and commercial properties, and operating the City’s Waste Management Facility and Compost Facility.

Waste Management Facility

The Waste Management Facility (WMF) is home to the Son of War Eagle Landfill, compost facility, and transfer station. Located 3.5 km north of the Two Mile Hill and Alaska Highway intersection, the WMF also sells compost made from local organic waste.

Curbside Collection is provided to all eligible premises, including single-family homes and multi-residences of four units or less.
Multi-units & commercial businesses
Multi-units & commercial businesses
Multi-unit residences of five or more units and commercial/mixed-use properties are not eligible for residential Curbside Collection.
Country residential
Country residential
Country residential residents are required to manage their own waste.
Compost sales
Compost sales
The City offers two formats for compost to meet your needs: bagged compost for small scale garden projects, and bulk compost for bigger projects such as landscaping and agriculture.

An important part of keeping our wilderness wild is properly managing our waste, as well as other “attractants”. We can do this by being accountable for our waste, prevent illegal dumping or over filling a waste receptacle.
