Bagged compost (20 L) is available to purchase anytime at the Waste Management Facility during regular business hours. Please note the Waste Management Facility is currently sold out of bagged compost. Residents can bring a 20 L container, a shovel and fill the container for $6.
Bulk compost and the blended mix must be pre-ordered by calling 867-668-8350 extension 4.
Pick-up appointments for the 2026 season are available Tuesday to Friday: 8 to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 4:30 pm.
We offer two types of compost:
- Compost
- Mixed compost (blend of compost + sand)
Which product do I need? What’s the difference between compost and mixed compost?
- Compost product is ideal for adding to existing soil to condition and add nutrients.
- Mixed compost (blend of compost and sand) is ideal for empty garden boxes, new gardens, and lawn applications. Vegetable and flower gardeners sometimes add peat moss to the blended product too.

About our compost
All batches have a bioassay performed to confirm compost quality and we consistently achieve 95% or greater germination using certified radish seeds. Our routine laboratory analysis is based on CCME guidelines for Class A compost and includes tests for certain trace elements, foreign matter, maturity and presence of pathogens. Routine analysis for hydrocarbons and herbicides in each batch is not required under CCME but semi-regular analysis of these is required for OMRI certification and previous analyses have not produced any concerning results. We do not sell any product that has not passed the testing standards and bioassay.
When organic waste is in a landfill there is no oxygen to help break it down. This lack of oxygen results in the production of greenhouse gases including methane. Methane is the second biggest contributor to global warning. It is 25 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere. Not only does organic waste release gases into the atmosphere, it also, creates a toxic liquid when rainwater or melting snow filters through the waste. This toxic liquid is called leachate and it has the potential to pollute ground water.
Like garbage, organic waste takes up value landfill space. Diverting your organics helps extend the lifespan of our landfill. Unlike garbage, organic waste can have a second life by becoming compost!
- Add organic waste to your green cart.
- A collection truck transports the organic waste to the compost facility.
- Food waste provides nitrogen-rich feedstock, while yard waste provides carbon-rich feedstock. They are mixed to achieve the ideal 25:1 carbon-to-nitrogen ratio.
- The material is formed into compost windrows.
- Moisture, oxygen, and temperature are monitored throughout the process.
- Windrows are turned regularly and maintained at 55°C for at least 15 days.
- The compost is left to cure, allowing biological activity to reduce as the temperature drops to match the surrounding environment.
- Mature compost is tested according to the guidelines set by the Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment (CCME) and the Organics Materials Review Institute (OMRI).
- The compost is screened to ¼ inch to remove non-compostable materials.
- A bioassay confirms a 95% germination rate to ensure compost quality.
- Finished compost is ready for sale!
