All recreational vehicles with 2, 3, 4, or 8+ wheels are all considered ATVs. This includes dirt bikes, quads, unimogs, etc.

Only ATVs registered (with a licence plate displayed on the ATV) with the Department of Motor Vehicles may operate within the City of Whitehorse.

All trail users, families and outdoor enthusiasts alike are welcome to enjoy our trails during snowmobile season! Please remember:

  • no person shall drive an automobile on a City trail unless it was developed, designated and approved for such a purpose;
  • no person shall make ruts or displace vegetation from its place of growth; and
  • ATV operations on City trails and open spaces are restricted from November 1 to March 31 of every year.

The City of Whitehorse would like to remind all cyclists of the Bicycle Bylaw requirements. Some of the laws that you’ll need to know are:

  • Cyclists and bike trailer passengers must wear a helmet;
  • Use the road for transportation, not the sidewalk;
  • Equip your bicycle with a head lamp and tail light when riding in the dark;
  • Make sure when riding you do not have headphones in both ears;
  • Signal by voice, bell or other signalling device before passing pedestrians; and
  • Use proper hand signals.

The City of Whitehorse would like to remind residents and employees of the dangers of distracted driving, which includes eating and drinking, personal grooming, loud music, and cell phone use.

Driving and texting can increase the risk of collision by 23 times and talking on a hand-held or hands-free device can increase the risk of collision by up to 4 times. A distracted driver may can fail to see up to 50% of their driving environment and 80% of collisions are due to a form of distracted driving.
