Why is sorting your waste important?
Sorting waste helps keep valuable materials out of the landfill by waste diversion, where it can be reused, recycled, or composted. The City’s organic waste is composted at the Waste Management Facility. It is transformed into a nutrient-rich soil that supports local landscaping, gardening, and agriculture.
Diverting organics and recyclable material will extend the life of the landfill, reduce your disposal costs, and reduce landfill greenhouse gas emissions. By sorting the materials in the right carts, residents play an important role in creating a cleaner, more sustainable community, and supporting a circular economy.
You are required to sort organics, metals, clean wood, appliances, tires, concrete, asbestos, animal carcasses and hazardous waste. Recyclable packaging and paper products, cardboard and electronic waste are not accepted at the Waste Management Facility and should be brought to Raven ReCentre for free drop-off.
