The City of Whitehorse has completed a realignment of the Millennium Trail, improving accessibility and the long-term sustainability of the trail.
The project included approximately 100 metres of new asphalt trail and the installation of a new bench. The previous section of asphalt has been removed and will no longer be maintained. A gravel base remains in place and users who choose to use this section may do so at their own risk.
The new trail section was designed using guidance from the Yukon Government’s Active Transportation Design Guide. The trail may feel slightly wider than other sections of the Millennium Trail. This additional width was incorporated to help reduce future damage caused by tree roots growing through the path.
This project was made possible through the generous support of the John O’Day Foundation, whose funding helps create more accessible opportunities for people to connect with nature. Thank you!
The City thanks trail users for their patience during design, regulatory permitting and construction this summer.
