Downtown traffic boxes turned to art

Whitehorse artist Clayton Conner is bringing new art to downtown crosswalks.

Known for his mural work in Whitehorse and throughout the North, Conner is one of nine artists to have projects selected in the City’s most recent Request for Proposals for public art.

Residents may have recently noticed Conner at work at various crosswalks.

Conner’s project brings wildlife and landscape scenes to 19 traffic control boxes for downtown crosswalks. Each piece will be a unique reflection of the location. Residents are invited to take in each of these new art installations.

Under the City’s art policy, one per cent of the capital construction budget for City-owned building projects is set aside for public art installation. Funding for this RFP comes from the Whitehorse Operations Building expansion and the new Robert Service Campground building.
