            Celebrating the Whitehorse-Lancieux Friendship

            August 24, 2023

The City of Whitehorse and the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) invite you to celebrate the 23rd Anniversary of the Whitehorse-Lancieux Sister City connection in the form of an after-work event where cider and crepes will be offered on Tuesday, August 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Centre de la francophonie (302 Strickland Street).

Both cities share a history with the poet Robert W. Service as he adopted these two locations as his homes for his poetic inspirations. The great affection he had for these towns still brings the sister cities of Whitehorse and Lancieux together today.

“Our sister city relationships provide an opportunity to promote economic, educational and cultural exchanges, and we are fortunate to enjoy such a strong, long-lasting relationship with Lancieux. The significance of the Francophone community to our heritage and culture cannot be overstated, and we’re thankful to the volunteers in the Yukon and France who help make this relationship prosper,” said Whitehorse Mayor Laura Cabott.

“What an honour to celebrate today the relationship between Lancieux and Whitehorse. The warm and enduring ties that unite the two sister cities are rooted in our vision of a vibrant and active Yukon French-speaking community whether local, national, or international. These ties also serve as catalysts for Francophone tourism and immigration to our territory, as evidenced by the growing number of new French-speaking visitors and those who settle in the Yukon. Thank you to the City of Whitehorse for its annual collaboration and for celebrating with us this important event!” said Lorraine Taillefer, President of AFY.

The reception is free and open to everyone. For more information, visit: lancieux.afy.ca

Official voice and leader in the development of the Yukon French-speaking community since 1982, AFY aims to improve the quality of life of Yukon Francophones.
