The City of Whitehorse will host two days of FireSmart info sessions and workshops at the Robert Service Campground this month. The public engagement sessions will cover proposed bylaw and policy changes to help reduce wildfire risk in Whitehorse.
The sessions will be held September 22 and 23 at the new Robert Service Campground building.
- Monday, September 22:
3 p.m. – 6 p.m. – drop-in session
6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – facilitated workshop
- Tuesday, September 23:
10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – drop-in session
12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – facilitated workshop
Residents can learn more about proposed changes to the City’s Zoning Bylaw, Maintenance Bylaw, Building and Plumbing Bylaw and Tree Removal Policy and provide feedback.
Proposed amendments include requiring the use of deciduous trees in landscaping plans, prohibiting firewood storage within 1.5m of homes during fire season, and allowing residents to apply for a permit to FireSmart public greenspace within 30 m of their property line.
