The City’s contractor, Norcope Enterprises, will be upgrading underground infrastructure at the intersection of Hospital Road and Lewes Boulevard beginning Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m.
The work is necessary to replace a deteriorating underground vault housing a City water line.
Drivers can expect delays and detours during the project, which is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, July 22.
The centre lane at the south end of Hospital Road will be closed to traffic while work is underway. Detours will be in place for left turns from Hospital Road onto Lewes Boulevard into Riverdale, and for left turns from Lewes Boulevard onto Hospital Road towards Whitehorse General Hospital.
The remaining lanes will remain open: northbound from Lewes Boulevard to Hospital Road, and from Hospital Road northbound to Lewes Boulevard toward the Robert Campbell Bridge.
Emergency vehicles will have priority access at all times and will not be subject to detours.
Transit routes and schedules remain unchanged.
Pedestrians and other active transportation users are encouraged to use the southwest side of Lewes Boulevard while the work is underway.
Traffic control staff will be at the intersection throughout the project to manage traffic and pedestrian flow.
Residents travelling through the area are asked to drive with caution and follow signage and traffic control measures in the area.
Visitors to the Whitehorse General Hospital are advised to allow extra time when travelling to the hospital for appointments or visiting loved ones.
This project has been organized to ensure minimal disruption to the public, local businesses, emergency services, and the hospital.
We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this critical infrastructure work occurs.
