Zero Waste Yukon
Zero Waste Yukon is hosting a clothing swap! Bring clothing you no longer need or wear and swap it out for something new-to-you! The rules are: 1. All clothing donations MUST be freshly washed. 2. You do not need to donate to take clothing. 3. All clothing is free! Leftover clothing will go to Raven ReCentre. Clothing will then either be sorted into our Reuseful Thrift Store, or will be bailed and sent south to Trans-Continental Textile Recycling for recycling.
Block printing on clothing with Leslie Leong
Register on the day at the Zero Waste booth. First-come, first-served. Dig out your old clothes, t-shirts, jackets, pants, skirts, or even the kitchen towel and learn how to make them new again! Using leftover house paint, local artist Leslie Leong will teach people how to print on cloth, using lino blocks to print their old clothes. Add some pizzazz and learn to love your clothes once again! Note: Smoother cloth items work best.
Yukonstruct Repair Cafe
Have a broken toaster that needs some TLC? Or maybe your favourite pair of jeans need a patch? Bring it over to Yukonstruct’s Repair booth! They’ll be hosting a mini Repair Cafe where volunteers will provide advice and help people repair their own broken items, or those that could use some maintenance and TLC. The volunteers can demonstrate and help troubleshoot and repair small electrical appliances (like toasters, blenders, rice cookers, head phones, radios, etc). And will have a small sewing machine on hand to show how minor fabric repairs or improvements can be made on clothes, boots, etc. In the event you can’t make it to the Indoor Garage Sale, you can come to the full scale “Repair Cafe” which is held on the last Thursday of each month (6-9 pm) in the MakeSpace at Northlight Innovation centre (2180 – 2nd Ave).
Raven’s Zero Waste Team
Raven is promoting reuse and repair! Come learn about our thrift store, sign up for our Tool Library, and chat with our staff! We have big plans for the summer and we’re excited to tell you all about it! Zero Waste is the education, outreach, and advocacy arm of Raven ReCentre. Since 2014, Zero Waste has been working to inspire change through public education and engagement, events, and support of Zero Waste initiatives in the Yukon Territory.
Computers for School Yukon
We receive various tech donations from the government or individuals and refurbish them so that we can give away or sell at a low cost to students/teachers, non-profit organizations and First Nation organizations! For the Community Garage Sale we will be offering consultations and light repairs (the software side if. things). We may also accept tech donations at our booth but if it’s a large amount of items we request a scheduled visit to our warehouse to drop those off.
