The City is seeking public input on proposed bylaw and policy changes to help reduce the wildfire risk to Whitehorse properties.
Proposed amendments to the Zoning Bylaw, Maintenance Bylaw, and Building and Plumbing Bylaw as well as the Tree Removal Policy aim to strengthen wildfire protection.
The proposed amendments include requiring the use of deciduous trees in landscaping plans, prohibiting firewood within 1.5 m of homes during fire season, and allowing residents to apply for a permit to FireSmart public greenspace within 30 m of their property line.
Find a full list of proposed amendments, additional information and fill out a survey at engagewhitehorse.ca/firesmart-bylaw. Share your thoughts by filling out the survey by August 31.
Your feedback will shape how the City moves forward in building a more wildfire-resilient community.
