Wanted: Neighbourhood Champions.

Help protect your neighbourhood from wildfire—become a FireSmart Neighbourhood Champion!

If you’re passionate about community, wildfire safety, and making a real difference, this volunteer opportunity is for you.

Through the FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood Recognition Program, neighbours come together to reduce wildfire risk and help build more resilient communities.

The first step is finding a Neighbourhood Champion, someone who brings people together,  coordinates with the City of Whitehorse’s FireSmart specialist, and helps to organize local FireSmart activities and guide the neighbouhood through the recognition process.

Participating neighbourhoods are eligible to receive $1,000 in initial funding to implement a FireSmart plan, plus $750 annually to support ongoing participation in the program.
